Lovely night
I'm alive. Work is good. fudged up a present idea. Now I don't know what to do with it. BLAH

EUReKA, and science fiction

Lovely night
I've been reupholstering a chair. And while I did this, I decided to catch up on some of my TV shows.

I started with /As Time Goes By/ starring Judi Dench. They show re runs on PBS on saturday nights. and Netflix had the whole series (minus the reunion specials) It was very sweet and witty.
So Netflix is recommending to me a variety of shows, and what comes up? Eureka. I LOVED Eureka and for some reason, I just couldn't remember what was the last episode I'd seen or why I stopped watching (aside from the fact that I've been avoiding SyFy like the plague.

So I watched season one, and I remembered all the episodes as I watched them, and i said to myself I must have stopped here. Then i watched season 2, and it was the same. Finally I learned I had not watched season 3.5 and the current season 4.

And with season 4 I'm in love with Eureka all over again. It's not the introduction of the Grant character, because his accent is awful and I'm sorry writers, but having him say Sport at the end of every other sentance isn't accurate history, it's imagined, people don't really talk like that, they never have, and they never will. Take a page from Mad Men's dialouge. Use outdated slang sparingly. This guy isn't a teenager.

Sorry, that was an unexpected rant. No, What I love about Eureka season 4, is that they managed to switch it up, without the death of a main character. They took a basic, every sci fi show has an episode about this topic, and then DIDN'T REESTABLISH THE STATUS QUO. And I can't wait for season 4 to resume next year :D

To Do List:

Things to accomplish before Argentina:
•Get new pants
•New comfy walking shoes, preferably ones that don't look like sneakers
•Hair cut!!!!
•Will most likely need long sleeved shirts to go under t-shirts
•Will need socks long than ankle length
•Other under garments

I ask my technology buddies: How nervious should I be about my passport having an RDIF chip? Is it worth it to invest in one of those RDIF blocking wallets?

Also: Note to self, don't forget to buy These: http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/portable-audio-video/daa1/#tabs

U. S. VICE-PRESIDENT NIXON IN AUSTRIA TO ASSESS AID FOR HUNGARIAN REFUGEES

ETA: The embedding doesn't seem to work, so here's the link : http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=66294

This is a silent news reel from with VP Nixon came to Austria to meet with Hungarian Refugees.

I am half-Hungarian, my father is a political refugee. That's not the funny thing. At about 30 seconds there are some people standing to the right of a sign, it's my grandfather and my dad. There's even a close up of my grandfather a little later (after a little girl slowly waving her hand) smiling as Nixon bends over to say hi to my dad.

Suffice to say, my dad was kind of like, /oh yeah/ that's totally us. all non-challant and stuff. But i don't remember my grandfather (he died when i was like a year old) and finding him on this old news reel was v. exciting for me.

Review of PrimeCollapse )

In short: not a comedy, but worth seeing how it deals with family's expectations and what we tell people we aren't related to.

my birthday party. All the craziness, all the calories.Collapse )

CLEARLY I SHOULD BE SUBJECTED TO SCIENCE TO SEE WHY I ATTRACT THE CRAZIES.

When I was 24, It was a very good year

Lovely night
A year of Work, Friends, and Learning New Things.

+
•Am Currently employed! Last year was spent mostly un-employed and 2009 was a large improvement over that.
•Have met new people and am making New friends! This makes me incredibly happy.
•Started crafting again. Sadly my beautiful feathered headband was chewed apart by the kitty, but I still did it!
•Depression has taken a major cutback and is currently forced to continue layoffs. (This does not make me cry)
•Am working with a group of people that find me useful&helpful in the office, and they keep hiring me :D :D :D

-
•Am still living at home. This will change next year.
•This year was the end of a particular friendship. And I'm sad to see it go, no matter what I said when it happened. I miss the creative energy I had with that person, but for mental health, it was sadly necessary to say goodbye.
•And that's really all I can think of.

I am so grateful that I was blessed with such a good year, and here's hoping everything will be zen in 2010!
